Liko has been a world-leading patient lift manufacturer which, since the start in 1979, is specialized in developing solutions for simple and safe lifting and transferring.  Hillrom acquired Liko in 2008.  Together, Hillrom and Liko offer customers a complete solution to patient care and transfers, focusing on improving care quality and caregiver's productivity. Today, the Liko name lives on as the brand of lift and transfer products offered by Hillrom.

Clinical Programs & Research

Hillrom offers a variety of solutions to support SPHM, including the Liko® brand of lifts & accessories as well as patient transfer boards, air-assisted patient transfer systems, powered stretchers, and many bed features that contribute to SPHM such as bed-height adjustment, Trendelenburg/boosting, chair egress, turn assist and more. Clinical Programs & Research

Yes, Hillrom offers the Safe Transfers and Movement™ Program.  The Safe Transfers and Movement™ Program is a multifaceted, programmatic approach with flexible options to support implementing your Safe Patient Handling & Mobility (SPHM) practices. The goals of SPHM are to reduce caregiver injuries and improve patient care.  To learn more, visit our Hillrom STAMP web page.

Clinical Programs & Research

Ten states have enacted Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) laws, and they vary considerably. There are no all-encompassing federal laws or regulations that guide the practice of patient handling.

Clinical Programs & Research

Safe Patient Handling & Mobility is an industry coined term/phrase referring to policies and programs that enable caregivers to move their patients in a way that does not cause injury and “mobility” to capitalize on the emerging evidence-based concept of early mobility for the patient as an end goal.

Product Use

If the bed is an older REV than REV K, there are a couple of options:

  1. Replace the scale board with a kgs only scale board. Once this is done the beds will not be able to read in lbs unless the scale board is replaced again.
  2. Upgrade the bed with alarm silence. The advantage of this option is that with the right combination of key presses, you can select the displayed scale units on the beds (in either kg or lbs). All VersaCare beds can be upgraded to have the alarm silence feature.

If the bed is REV K or already has alarm silence capability or has been upgraded with one, the scale units can be changed using the directions below:

Instructions for changing the scale units with button images showing the number zero and scales icon

Product Use

The scale system for the VersaCare Bed has an accuracy of 1% and an operating range of 0 lb to 500 lb (0 kg to 227 kg). The scale display and controls are located on the flip-up control pod on the head-end siderails.

The scale is very sensitive. The weight reading will be most accurate if the bed is not touching anything. This includes the headwall, lines such as pendant controls, ventilators, or drainage bags. Anything that affects the weight on the bed even slightly will cause an incorrect weight to appear on the display.

Product Use

REV A – 70 lb to 500 lb (31.8 kg to 227 kg)

REVs B to J – 50 lb to 500 lb (23 kg to 227 kg)

Product Use

Before weighing the patient, make sure of the following:

  • All items on the list defined in the "Bed Setup" section are accounted for (see "Bed Setup" on page 34 of the VersaCare instruction manual)
  • No drainage bags or equipment has been added
  • The patient is lying still and is centered on the mattress

To Activate - press the Weigh control.
VersaCare weigh control button showing scales icon

Note:
On release of the Weigh control, the bed gets the current patient weight. If the units are configured for both lb and kg, the weight will show lb for 10 seconds, kg for 5 seconds, and then repeats.
